Chinese Ancestor Portrait, 18th to 19th Century Qing Dynasty. An extremely rare large ancestor portrait, ink and colour painted on paper with silk and with gilt highlights, depicting a real figure of a wife or consort sitting on a throne chair. The woman wearing robes embroidered with a central front facing rank badge. Framed and glazed 175cm tall x 120cm wide. Impressive in size and imbued with realism and ritual reverence, this important portrait is a rare visual document relating to high-ranking members of Qing society and very possibly of the inner circle of the Qing Imperial Court.
