tender The Ken Perkins Collection

tender "Ken Perkins was an Australia based vinyl record collector. For the best part of 50 years, Ken was a passionate collector of the best examples he could find of the micro groove vinyl records he sought out."

tender Ken had a genuine love of most of the music he collected. After assembling a core collection of the genres he particularly loved

tender The Collection, as it presently stands, is a distillation of those many years of concerted collecting that maintained a consistent and specific focus on blues, 50’s rock n roll, soul, early R&B and certain jazz.

tender Ken’s “day job” was always in the mining industry, where he was responsible for scheduling the production of large custom sand mining rigs …

tender a task which requires a particularly analytical and organized mind that has a love of detail. Ken approached his record collecting the same way.

tender he then embarked on a “completist” expedition that lasted a lifetime: collecting all of the records within a given label or catalogue series of interest

tender Fortunately for us, his taste was impeccable and the Collection includes the cream of desirable, top-of-the-sought-after lists in blues and classic rock n roll.

tender Ken’s approach saw him routinely acquire a number of copies of individual records though out the collection over the years … patiently updating them to the “best” quality.

tender Much of the collection’s core was assembled in the “pre-internet” days and features many records simply not seen on today’s market.

tender Anyone who knew Ken, will tell you of his little black book that contained details of the specific records he was looking for to complete a certain series, or that he needed to upgrade in quality. He was never without it …

tender because he always expected to find a record every time he left the house. His famously analytical mind did the rest.

tender Ken worked mainly from label catalogues … but his knowledge extended beyond those when it came to specific versions released, covers, and how that record looked in different jurisdictions.

tender He actually sought out retired record label executives and the like to help him fill out the background and detail of catalogues.

tender His nick name across that record collecting world says it all: “Kenwood”. Meaning, “who would have such and such record”, or “who on earth would know the answer to that?”: “Ken Would”.

tender It is widely considered by record collecting aficionados that The Ken Perkins Collection as it is today is literally one of the world’s best … not only in terms of size but more importantly quality and rarity.

tender Yours is a rare opportunity to become custodian of and … like Ken … enjoy this great assembly of some of the best records ever made.
